Special Thanks to

Engine

1993 Fuel Injected 4.9L (300ci) Aluminium Block V8 from a Cadillac Elderado.

The FWD Caddy motors use the same small GM bellhousing pattern as the Chev 60 degree V6. So it bolts to the Fiero transaxle without an adapter plate. The Caddy motor being an aluminium block is near identical weight to the Fieros 2.8  V6 so there is no weight penalty in handling or stopping.

Cooling

The Fiero uses 2 long stainless pipes running the entire length of the body feeding an aluminium radiator up front.  The Stock Fiero rad is almost identical to the Corvette radiator of the same year.  So we are able to use the stock cooling system without issue.

Total Package

Having a mid engine layout with the motor sitting over top of the rear tires, it allows the car to really take advantage of the V8 torque.  You step on the gas and moderated properly, all the weight transfers to the rear tires and off you go. Most front engine cars would need slicks and prepped track to get as much traction.  Alternately think of it this way.  Take an F-Body put the motor in the back seat, strip out a thousand pounds and make it a 5spd.  J

As a driver it is great, highway speeds with the overdrive 5th put the rpms around 2100 rpms at 75mph (120kph) The light small aerodynamic shape lets it slip through the air and pull off an amazing and documented 30mpg. Yes thirty American miles per gallon while cruising down the interstate at 75mph.  Being a Caddy motor GM designed this motor to be smooth with factory balanced internals so little to any vibration is felt while cruising.

How do I pass Air Care / Smog / Emissions Testing?

The newer Cadillac fuel injection is so efficient that the results could have been 10x over and still produced less than the stock V6 was allowed. So this swap is even good for the environment.
