Introduction to Boost
Thinking about turbocharging your Fiero? It's not as hard as you think if you plan ahead. I recommend keeping boost under 10 PSI with stock compression ratios (8.5 - 8.9) and always running a bit rich for safety.
Critical Components:
- Injectors: Upgrade to Ford 19# Mustang injectors. They plug right into the stock Fiero fuel rail and support up to 240 HP.
- Fuel Pressure: Use a Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator to prevent lean-out under boost.
- Pistons: Forged are best, but Hyperutectic or even Cast can work with low boost if you avoid detonation.
- Ignition: MSD 6A with a Blaster II coil and Superconductor wires is the tried-and-true setup.
- Turbo Choice: T3 turbos from a Dodge Daytona 2.2 or Ford Thunderbird are almost perfect for a 2.8L Fiero.
Distributor & Spark Plug Routing
If you've lost track of your wire routing, here is the factory GM layout. If your distributor was removed, find #1 TDC compression to re-index.
Pro Tip: Pull the #1 spark plug and bump the ignition until compression blows your thumb off—that's your #1 position!
